Kari Voelstad Bogen. Kari is a Libero/Defensive Specialist from Sola, Norway, who has helped elevate the volleyball program on and off the court.
What is your major, and why did you choose it?
"So my major is a double major in computer and electrical engineering because I've always been interested in technology and wanted to try something new."
What is one class or professor that has stood out at Florida Tech?
"My favorite professor here is Dr. Purohit. Here is an amazing teacher who wants nothing but success for his students and he's always pushed us to be a better."
How do you plan on using your major in your life after Florida Tech (career goals)?
"My goal is to kind of contribute somewhere where I can make life easier for people and I can make some sort of invention or something."
What is one skill that you have brought from volleyball into the classroom?
"So i've basically played volleyball my entire life but in club for 18 years, and the skill for volleyball I would say is resilience. You're going to have setbacks and challenges that you have to overcome. And just never giving up and keep believing."
How have the academics at Florida Tech made you grow as a person?
"It has forced me to be extremely disciplined with the rigorous academic programs we got here. You can't slack off at all because you're not going to make it."
What is your advice to other international students on how to succeed in the classroom at Florida Tech?
"I would say never be scared to ask for help. Reach out to your classmates, use your resources, professors, tutoring, and classrooms, whoever just network, network, network. It's such a basic answer but it is so important."
