Athletics Philosophy Statement
Florida Tech is dedicated to developing an environment that complies with NCAA rules and regulations, sportsmanship, and the NCAA Division II philosophy of "Life in the Balance." We emphasize a "comprehensive learning program and development in a personal setting."
Athletics is focused on providing an elite academic, athletic, and student life experience. In combining these three elements, athletics provides a core institutional program aligned with the University's mission “educates global thinkers, resilient problem solvers, and future leaders, ready to support industry and societal needs by responsibly integrating science, technology and other key disciplines to advance knowledge across the universe..”
The athletics program operates within an institutionally approved budget. Florida Tech athletics recruits and develops staff, coaches, and athletes grounded in high ethical standards and integrity. Our athletic teams and coaches are driven to support our athletes and help them become scholars. We expect our scholar-athletes to achieve grade point averages and graduation rates that exceed the University average.
We provide resources for all teams in proportion to university enrollment, compliant with Title IX of the Federal Civil Rights Law. Our teams will be competitive and schedule most competitions against members of NCAA Division II programs to enhance opportunities for NCAA rankings. We always aim to win the Sunshine State Conference in every sport we compete in and qualify for NCAA Regional and National Championships. We will create a championship-caliber scholar-athlete experience with the leading apparel, equipment, technology, transportation, lodging, and nutrition for every scholar-athlete.
We connect our scholar-athletes with outreach opportunities to contribute to our campus and the local community in developing responsible citizens and leaders. Florida Tech athletics extends beyond our scholar-athletes academic, athletic, and student life experience by offering life skills development opportunities with mental health, financial literacy, academic skills, leadership, name, image and likeness, and life after graduation.
