Tech Blanks Nova Southeastern to Earn Fourth South Region Championship in Program History

Kaitlin Sinkler saved a career-high 11 shots

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team claims their fourth South Region Championship in program history with their 1-0 win over Nova Southeastern in the sweet 16 on Sunday, Nov. 30.

GAME NOTES
  • Both teams felt each other out for the first eight minutes as no shots were recorded.
  • Nova fired the first shot of the match that was saved by Kaitlin Sinkler in the ninth minute.
  • Sinkler was tested again in the 13th minute as she made a terrific diving save to her right.
  • The Sharks earned a corner after the shot, but Tech defended two shots by Nova as one was blocked while the other was saved by Sinkler.
  • In the 23rd minute, Mia Otero had a great look at the Nova net, but it was saved by the NSU keeper.
  • Sinkler's huge night in goal continued with her fourth save of the half in the 33rd minute.
  • Tech had a free kick with 54 seconds remaining in the first half. Nora Oldmark's shot missed just right as the half ended at 0-0.
  • Nova came out aggressive as they had shots in the 49th, 55th and 57th minutes. All were well defended by the Tech defense and resulted in saves by Sinkler.
  • In the 63rd minute, Katie Ormerod placed a perfect pass up field to hit Lauryn Wood in stride. Wood fought off a defender and shot it by the Nova goalkeeper to put Tech on top, 1-0.
  • Tech continued to play sound defense as they rejected another Nova attempt to tie the game in the 65thminute with Sinkler making another save.
  • Sofia Posner had a great look on a shot in the 67th minute, but it was just out to the left of the Nova goal.
  • The Sharks planted shots on the Tech goal in the 69th and 72nd minute. Sinkler saved both to preserve the Tech lead.
  • Looking to add insurance, the Panthers had break aways in the 78th and 81st minutes with shots by Batchadji and Bromage that were saved by Nova.
  • With the clock ticking, Nova had last-minute efforts in the 82nd and 85th minute, but the Florida Tech defense prevailed as the Panthers would go on to defeat Nova and earn their fourth South Region Championship in program history.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Kaitlin Sinkler notched a career-high of 11 saves.
  • Lauryn Wood scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute with a beautiful assist by Katie Ormerod.
  • Florida Tech was out shot 8-2 in the first half. Both teams took nine shots in the second half.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will advance to the Elite Eight and will host the Southeast Region Champions, Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, Dec. 6. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m. EST at Rick Stottler Field.
