Women’s Basketball Drops Home Contest to Eckerd

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's basketball team drops a contest at home to Eckerd, 75-42.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: Florida Tech 42, Eckerd 75
Records: Florida Tech (4-5, 1-3 SSC), Eckerd (7-2, 4-0 SSC)
Location: Clemente Center | Melbourne, Fla.

FIRST QUARTER:
  • Eckerd took command early with a layup seven seconds into the game.
  • Missed shots and turnovers plagued both teams following the first basket for the next three minutes.
  • Tech's Remingtyn Smith laid down a huge three-pointer for the lead at 7:00.
  • The Tritons responded with back-to-back layups for a 6-3 advantage before Nandinkhusel Nyamjav tied it back up with another Panther three-pointer.
  • On repeat, Eckerd made a layup, and Njyamjav cashed in on her second shot from deep, giving the Panthers a 9-8 edge.
  • Another Nyamjav jumper increased the Panthers' lead to 11-8 with three minutes left.
  • A Triton 7-2 run to end the quarter put them on top 15-13 after the first 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER:
  • Eckerd extended their lead to begin the second with a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes.
  • Tai Roberts made two critical jumpers and two free throws in the quarter to keep the Panthers alive.
  • However, the Tritons landed a long shot at 3:05 and hit one free throw for the 29-21 lead at the half.
THIRD QUARTER:
  • Another great start for the Tritons led to a 17-1 stretch before Roberts drained a midrange jumper.
  • Roberts' jumper sparked a little offensive momentum as Amanda Ogbonna posted up for two baskets.
  • However, Eckerd went into the final 10 minutes with the 52-29 lead. 
FOURTH QUARTER:
  • Ogbonna continued to pursue the basket, hitting a layup and a free throw in the first minute.
  • Later, Ogbonna worked around the Triton defender for another layup.
  • Eckerd continued to make shots from beyond the arc, stoking four between 8:02 and 1:45, putting the nail in the coffin.
NOTABLE PANTHERS: INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Panthers' all-time record versus Eckerd is 53-30
  • Tech is 30-12 all-time at home against Eckerd.
