Women’s Lacrosse Tame Mountain Lions Early For Road Win

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Looking to put their loss to Seton Hill in the rearview mirror, the #19 ranked Florida Tech women's lacrosse team did so in emphatic fashion at Young Harris on Saturday evening. The Crimson and Gray used an 8-0 run that spanned 19:43 of game time between the first and third quarters, removing all doubt, and Tech strolled to a stress-free 17-6. victory.

FIRST QUARTER:

  • The Panthers took the lead after two and a half minutes through Sophia Scichilone.
  • The Mountain Lions knotted the game at one thanks to Riley Parker's free position goal at 9:20.
  • Eighteen seconds later, Gillian Craig extended her scoring streak to put Tech back in front.
  • Caroline Finn added to the hot start 24 seconds later.
  • Just over a minute later, Craig ensured the Crimson and Gray kept their foot on the gas, converting Charlotte Hardie's feed to make it 4-1.
  • Craig completed her first quarter hat trick at 4:29 to push Florida Tech's lead to 5-1.
  • Less than 40 seconds after that, Finn notched her second of the quarter.
  • YHC earned one back through Sydney Craig's free position goal at 3:19.
  • Sofie Bender added her name to the score sheet with 20 seconds remaining in the quarter.

SECOND QUARTER:

  • Charlotte Hardie's third goal in two games extended the Panther lead to 8-2 at 12:52.
  • A 1:04 later, she doubled her tally thanks to a free position goal.
  • Finn completed her third hat trick of the season at 9:31 on a free position goal.
  • Just over three minutes later, Finn earned her second four-goal game of the season.
  • Carly Niro got in on the avalanche with a goal of her own at 3:33 to make it 12-2.
  • Scichilone tallied her second of the game at 2:14 on Bender's helper.

THIRD QUARTER:

  • Phoebe Hurt made sure Tech showed no signs of rust by scoring 10 seconds into the second half.
  • The Mountain Lions drought came to an end at 13:36 through Ashlyn Fraley.
  • Exactly four minutes later, Niro posted her second goal of the game, this time through the free position.
  • Niah Anderson got one back for YHC at 6:25.
  • Anderson grabbed another a little over three minutes later, doing so from the free position.

FOURTH QUARTER:

  • Hardie earned her first trick of the season at 13:28 on a free position goal to give the Crimson and Gray a 16-5 lead.
  • Gabrielle Skowronski scored her second goal of the season at 9:31.
  • Riley Parker got the Mountain Lions one more on a free position goal at 4:05.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:

  • Caroline Finn led Tech on the night with four goals, along with three ground balls.
  • Charlotte Hardie also tallied four points thanks to three goals, an assist, and a ground ball.
  • Gillian Craig's stellar season continued with her sixth hat trick.
  • Sophia Scichilone provided two goals, an assist, and a caused turnover. The junior has scored multiple goals in all nine games this season.
  • Carly Niro notched her first multi-goal game of the season, as well as a pair of ground balls.
  • Phoebe Hurt added a goal, three caused turnovers and a ground ball.
  • Bryce Forrest had a team-high four ground balls.
  • Bridget Robinson recorded three saves in 41:38 of action, while Cailey Canessa made two stops over the final 18:22.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Florida Tech ended with more caused turnovers (7-4), groundballs (20-14), total shots (25-18) and shots on goal (22-11).
  • The Panthers were 12-12 on the clears, while the Mountain Lions were 7-7.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Florida Tech moves to 5-0 all-time against Young Harris having won the three games at Young Harris by an average of 10 goals.
  • This was the first meeting between the teams since February 28, 2020.
  • Sophia Scichilone moved past Mary Gormley (2015-2018) for fifth place on the program's career points list with 160. She also became the 10th player in program history to score 90 or more career goals and the second Panther ever to tally 70 or more assists.
  • Charlotte Hardie's hat trick was her first since March 12, 2024 vs. Westminster.
