Softball Ends Season on Senior Day

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech softball team dropped both doubleheader games, ending the season 29-22 and 15-15 in the conference. Thank you to our seniors, Celeste Casillas, Hailey Mix, Alex Hendrian, and Layna Pollock, for their impact on the program!

GAME ONE
STATS OF THE GAME:

Final: Florida Tech 3, Barry 4
Records: Florida Tech (29-11, 15-14 SSC) | Barry (33-16, 18-8 SSC)
Location: Nancy Bottge Field | Melbourne, Fla.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Despite striking out the first batter, the Panthers let up a solo shot to right center field for a 1-0 lead.
  • Chloe Fariello walked in her opening at-bat for her second straight game, but Tech did not bring her home.
  • After a 1-2-3 inning from Sammy Murphy, Haley Rider and Samantha Shortal led off the second with singles. They both moved over on a sacrifice bunt, then Rider scored on a Wild pitch, tying the game at 1-1.
  • The third inning saw neither team score while Murphy added another strikeout.
  • Barry forced four walks, bringing in a run in the fourth for the 2-1 advantage.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, the Panthers again led off with two hard-hit singles from Miranda Schwartz and Rider. However, the Buccaneers pitcher struck out the next three batters.
  • The Buccaneers extended their lead on a Carolina Figueroa home run to left center field.
  • Kelsey Hahn stepped into the circle in the sixth and induced three fly balls, keeping the score at 3-1.
  • Hahn's great inning was followed by a two-run bottom of the sixth for the Panthers tying the game. The inning began with a hit-by-pitch and a Schwartz single to center. The next batter, Rider, blasted a ball that hit the top of the fence for a RBI double.
  • A single from senior Layna Pollock loaded the bases again for Jillian Moeller to walk in the tying run.
  • Barry answered with a double to start the top of the seventh inning. A sacrifice bunt and a fielder's choice brought in the winning run. Panthers fell to the Buccaneers 4-3.

GAME TWO
STATS OF THE GAME:

Final: Florida Tech 2, Barry 7
Records: Florida Tech (29-22, 15-15 SSC) | Barry (34-16, 19-8 SSC)
Location: Nancy Bottge Field | Melbourne, Fla.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Barry's Harper Bunn started the third and final game on a leadoff single. She came around to score on a few errored throws from the Panthers' pitcher.
  • However, Tech responded as Ella Niles outran a Buccaneers' throw for a base hit, then stole second base. Fariello placed a solid bunt to step on first safely, and she attempted to steal base so that Niles could cross home plate. The game was tied at one apiece through one inning.
  • In the circle, Fariello gave up two hits in the next two innings, but the score remained 1-1.
  • Polluck placed a hit while leading off the bottom of the third but was left stranded at third.
  • The Buccaneers broke the game open, plating six runs on six hits, taking the 7-1 lead.
  • Tech earned one run back in the bottom of the fourth, sparked by a Casillas making her way to third on a stolen base and a bad throw. Schwartz brought Casillas home on a groundout.
  • Alex Hendrian returned to the series in relief and pitched two and two-thirds innings, allowing one hits. Julianna Hynes tallied the final out of the game.
  • The Panthers would not draw close in the bottom of the seventh, losing 7-2 in the final game.
