Panthers Show Resilience in Series’ Final Win at Embry-Riddle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite an 11-4 Game Two loss to Embry-Riddle, starting the afternoon, the Florida Tech bounced back in the series finale, defeating the Eagles, 5-3. It's the fourth straight Game Three win against conference opponents.

GAME ONE:
STATS OF THE GAME:

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • After a game where only one run scored, the Panthers matched it in the first inning for the early lead. With two runners on base, Haley Rider pokes a ball through the right side for the opening run.
  • ·Embry-Riddle kept their momentum from Friday's game by stacking five runs in the bottom of the first. Seven straight batters got on base following the leadoff out, including five singles.
  • Chloe Fariello ended the run with back-to-back strikeouts to wrap up the first inning.
  • Inserted into the lineup, Samantha Shortal laced a single to right field, but the Panthers were held scoreless in the second frame.
  • More of the same for the Eagles in the bottom of the inning, tallying four more runs on four hits. Julianna Hynes came in relief, getting the final three outs, one via a looking strikeout.
  • Both teams earned a hit during the third inning, but nothing came of either.
  • The Panthers did not go down without a fight. Brooklyn Lorenzo's leadoff hit led to a two-run blast from Shortal. The ball continued to roll as Dani Sigal stoked a double and came home on a passed ball and groundout. Tech was down 9-4.
  • In the fifth, Tech's offense loaded the bases on three walks before a popout concluded the inning. Embry-Riddle added two runs to the third in the bottom of the fifth for an 11-4 advantage.
  • Hynes bounced back in the sixth with a 1-2-3 inning, including striking out the leadoff batter while swinging.
  • Tech could not push a run across at the top of the seventh, sealing the 11-4 loss.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The Panthers kept their heads high going into the series' final game, grabbing the early lead in back-to-back games.
  • Fariello found an opening in left field and then advanced to second on a fielding error. Fariello came around to score on a Celeste Casillas triple. Tech did not let up as Rider scorched a double down the left field line for the 2-0 edge.
  • Starting for the first time, Kelsey Hahn stayed composed despite two runners in scoring position and got out of the bottom of the first unscathed.
  • Hahn allowed just one hit and a base runner for the next two innings.
  • While the Panthers extended their lead in the third on back-to-back singles from Rider and Shortal.
  • Embry-Riddle finally got on the board via a walk during the fourth, but Alex Hendrian stopped them in their tracks in relief.
  • Tech held the 4-1 lead until the sixth when Embry-Riddle's Katriana Bain single capitalized on a bases load two-out situation. Hendrian got the next batter looking on a strike to end the inning as the Panthers remained on top 4-3.
  • Casillas added an insurance run, crushing a bomb to left field for her fifth home run of the year.
  • The Eagles had runners on second and third in the bottom of the seventh but were denied a comeback by Hendrian earning the final two outs, one by strikeout.

NOTABLE PANTHERS:

  • Celeste Casillas combined to go 3-for-7, stroking a triple, a home run, and two RBI.
  • Samantha Shortal impressed, driving in two runs on a 2-for-2 Game Two, including a ball over the left field wall. She recorded three hits overall.
  • Haley Rider also notched three total hits.
  • Kelsey Hahn dominated her first start, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing just one run and striking out two batters.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Panthers lead the all-time series 15-13.
  • Kelsey Hahn started her first career game after appearing in seven games out of the pen.
  • Shortal smacked her second career home run, with her first coming in the second to last game of last season in a 16-9 win over Barry.
