Despite Strong Final Four Innings Panthers Fall to No. 1 Warhawks

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Panthers held the number one team in the nation to zero runs and two hits in the final four innings however the Warhawks scored seven runs in the first three for the 7-2 victory on Friday afternoon.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Auburn Montgomery started the game with three consecutive singles and two stolen bases sandwiched between them for a 1-0 advantage.
  • Two errors and another single later in the innings had the Warhawks in front 4-0 after the first inning.
  • Chloe Fariello placed a perfect bunt for a single in the bottom of the first and Miranda Schwartz followed with a deep single at the wall but were stranded on the bases.
  • Fariello settled down getting the first two batters out in the second then wrapped up the inning on a swinging strikeout.
  • The Warhawks capitalized on two-runners on base in the third, striking a moon shot to right center, increasing their lead to seven runs.
  • Audrey Gurule followed her first career hit in the final at-bat of the Panthers' last game by drilling her first pitch in left field for a double. Fariello brought her home on a sacrifice fly to centerfield for a 7-1 deficit.
  • Kelsey Hahn stepped in the fourth inning and despite runners at first and second with one out she struck a batter out. She forced a fielders' choice after the bases were loaded.
  • Tech had their leadoff hitter walk in the fourth who later came into to score on a Kate Rodel double that almost went over the fence.
  • Hahn allowed one hit in the next two innings and a strikeout keeping the Panthers hoped alive.
  • In the seventh inning, Ava McCormick saw her first action as a Panther by inducing back-to-back-to-back ground balls.
  • However, Tech's offense could not draw closer in a 7-2 lose to No. 1 Auburn Montgomery.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Miranda Schwartz recorded a multi-hit game with two on three at-bats
  • Kate Rodel tallied her fifth RBI, tying Schwartz with the second most in just four games.
  • Kelsey Hahn worked three innings, allowing two hits and striking out two batters
 BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • It was the first non-neutral site game between the two schools.
UP NEXT: Tech finish the Panther Invitational, playing a doubleheader against No. 2 Angelo State on Saturday, February 14th. The first game is set to start at 12 p.m. ET.
