Softball’s Late Push Falls Short in Both Games Versus No. 6 Saint Leo

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech softball battled in two tightly contested games but came up just short, falling 3–2 and 4–3. The Panthers consistently put pressure on Saint Leo late in both games but were unable to deliver the final hit to flip the result.

GAME ONE:

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Despite both teams getting a runner on base in the first inning neither team would score.
  • Tech grabbed the first run in the third inning as Audrey Gurule singled and advanced to third before Miranda Schwartz delivered an RBI single to give the Panthers a 1–0 lead.
  • The Panthers' starting pitcher Chloe Fariello kept Saint Leo quiet early, retiring the side in order in the third and working around baserunners in the first two innings.
  • Saint Leo took the lead in the fourth inning with a two-RBI single, putting the Lions ahead 2–1.
  • Tech answered in the sixth inning when Fariello walked and stole second before Emma Chisholm tied the game with an RBI single, making it 2–2.
  • Both teams relied on strong pitching down the stretch, with the Panthers and Lions each stranding runners in the sixth inning to keep the game tied.
  • Tech put a runner on in the seventh but could not push across the go-ahead run.
  • Saint Leo walked it off in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single to secure a 3–2 victory.

STATS OF THE GAME:
  • Saint Leo capitalized early in the first inning, using a walk, stolen base, and RBI single to take a 1–0 lead.
  • Malaya Nelson lead off the second with a single but was stranded, leaving the Lions ahead.
  • The Lions added another run in the third inning with back-to-back hits for the 2–0 advantage.
  • Tech broke through in the fourth as Emma Chisholm scored on a Kate Rodel RBI single to cut the deficit to 2–1.
  • Saint Leo responded in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of an error and a wild pitch to push the lead back to two at 3–1.
  • The Panthers continued to chip away in the fifth, with Gurule scoring on a Fariello RBI double to make it 3–2.
  • Saint Leo continued to answer, extending their edge back to two in the fifth on defensive miscues, extending the margin to 4–2.
  • Kelsey Hahn came in relief a finished the final 2.2 innings, highlighted by two strikeouts in the sixth, giving the Panthers a chance in the seventh.
  • Tech threatened late in the seventh, Mia Terito leadoff with a single and Gurule followed with a double followed by a walk by Julianna Hynes to load the bases.
  • Schwartz walked in a run to cut the score to 4–3. However, the final two batters struck out for the 4-3 loss to No. 6 Saint Leo.
NOTABLE PANTHERS:
  • Audrey Gurule batted .500, tallying three hits on six at-bats and scoring three runs.
  • Miranda Schwartz collected two RBI.
  • Malaya Nelson was 2-for-3 in the final game of the series
  • Chloe Fariello pitched a complete game and struck out three in Game Two.
  • Kelsey Hahn came in relief during Game Three and pitched 2.2 innings with three strikeouts.
