Panthers Fall to Embry-Riddle in the Quarterfinals of the SSC Tournament

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's lacrosse team's falls to the fourth-seeded Embry-Riddle Eagles in the SSC Quarterfinals on Saturday, Apr. 18.

GAME NOTES
FIRST QUARTER
  • Marin Crowley earned the opening draw win, Tech struck quickly as Abby Cudzilo found Gillian Craig for the first goal of the game within the first 20 seconds.
  • Embry-Riddle got on the board on a free position attempt.
  • The Eagles came back again and attempted to take the lead, but Bridget Robinson made a stop.
  • After another save by Robinson, Sophia Scichilone put Tech on top off an assist by Gillian Craig.
  • Craig would strike again at the 3:59 mark as Florida Tech took a 3-1 lead over the Eagles.
  • ERAU would come back within one before the quarter was over with a free position goal.
  • Both Eagles goals would come off free position shots.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Embry-Riddle tied the game at 3-3 as they scored off their third consecutive free position attempt.
  • ERAU would score two in a row as they forced the Panthers into a turnover and saved a shot.
  • Sophia Scichilone would score unassisted with 5:55 left in the second.
  • Scichilone would assist Abby Cudzilo on the ensuing goal by the Panthers.
  • Embry-Riddle was tagged with a yellow card, Sofie Bender capitalized and tied the game with her first goal of the afternoon.
  • With a minute left, ERAU would steal the lead going into halftime with goals at the 1:05 and 13-second mark in the quarter.
  • After two quarters, Embry-Riddle had 10 ground balls compared to the Panthers two.
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Panthers defense came alive in the third quarter as they stopped Embry-Riddle on their first four offensive possessions including three turnovers and a save by Robinson.
  • Gillian Craig earned her hat trick with a goal three minutes into the third quarter. Abby Cudzilo on the assist.
  • Isa Brown caused a turnover to give Tech the ball with a chance to tie the game. Haley Rosa's shot off the post which ERAU picked up the ground ball and scored in transition shortly after.
  • Florida Tech was hit with a yellow card at 5:17. The defense continued to step up as they forced an Eagle turnover.
  • Craig struck again for her fourth goal of the day coming in a man-down situation to bring Tech within one.
  • Craig scored again off an assist by Haley Rosa as the Panthers tied the Eagles at 9-9.
  • Tech held Embry-Riddle to only one goal in the quarter as Bridget Robinson saved two more shots before the end of the period.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • ERAU scored twice to open the fourth quarter at the 14:17 and 13:36 marks.
  • Sofie Bender hit a behind-the-back goal off an assist by Sophia Scichilone to bring Tech back within one.
  • Robinson saved a free position shot from ERAU. The Eagles picked up the ground ball and scored with seven minutes left in the game.
  • Bender kept the Panthers in it as she earned the hat trick with 6:20 left in the quarter.
  • The Eagles offense caught fire down the stretch as they score four unanswered to stake themselves to a 16-11 lead.
  • Tech's final chance was saved with just under a minute to play as Embry-Riddle went on to win.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Sofie Bender has recorded her 20th career hat trick, becoming the eighth player in program history to reach that milestone.
  • Gillian Craig recorded her 13th hat trick of the season, which ties her tally from last season for the second most in a season in program history.
  • Craig scored in her 36th consecutive game, dating back to February 6, 2024, tying the program record set by Sara Grenier over the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
  • With four points today, Sophia Scichilone became the Panthers all-time career points leader.
  • Bridget Robinson had 15 saves which is her third highest mark this season.
