Panthers Comeback Bid Falls Short Against No. 4 Embry-Riddle

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's lacrosse team's fourth quarter comeback falls short against No. 4 Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, Apr. 8.

GAME NOTES
FIRST QUARTER
  • The Eagles earned the opening draw and drew a foul against the Panthers. On the ensuing free position attempt, Bridget Robinson made an excellent save to keep Embry-Riddle off the board.
  • ERAU would notch their first goal of the game shortly after being stopped.
  • Robinson would save two more Embry-Riddle shots with 8:28 and 8:18 on the clock.
  • With the Eagles leading 2-0, Florida Tech would flip the script starting with a power play goal by Phoebe Hurt
  • FT would tie the game after Sofie Bender scored after a draw control by Clare McGuire. The same sequence would happen again a minute later as Bender gave Tech the lead.
  • Abby Cudzilo had two assists in the quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Tech would get hit with two green cards at the end of the first quarter which the Eagles took advantage of to tie the score at 3-3.
  • This would fuel an Embry-Riddle 5-0 run as they took a 7-3 lead.
  • ERAU's momentum would come a halt as Sophia Scichilone caused an Eagle turnover.
  • Isa Brown ended the Tech scoring drought with 2:13 to play in the period.
THIRD QUARTER
  • Gillian Craig notched her first goal of the game off an assist by Scichilone to bring Tech within two.
  • Embry-Riddle would score the next two goals as they staked themselves to a 10-5 lead.
  • Phoebe Hurt would swing the momentum back on Tech's sideline with an unassisted goal at the 3:40 mark.
  • Bridget Robinson made another great save on an ERAU free position shot. 
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Sophia Scichilone started the Tech scoring with the assist going to Sofie Bender.
  • Embry-Riddle would score their final goal of the game with 12:35 remaining.
  • After a green card was given to the Eagles, Phoebe Hurt recorded her hat trick on a free position shot with 6:37 left in the quarter.
  • Haley Rosa found the back of the net to bring Tech back within two.
  • At 3:37, Gillian Craig scored as the Panthers trailed by one.
  • Embry-Riddle won the following draw only for Phoebe Hurt to cause a huge turnover to give Tech the ball with 2:16 left.
  • Florida Tech had two opportunities at the Eagle net, but both shots flew high.
  • ERAU would force a turnover, then run out the rest of the clock as they escaped the Panthers comeback bid.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
  • Phoebe Hurt did it all as she had a hat trick, two ground balls, four caused turnovers and one draw control win.
  • Sofie Bender and Gillian Craig recorded two goals each.
  • Abby Cudzilo had two assists and picked up three ground balls.
  • Bridget Robinson recorded 11 saves, her sixth game of the season with double-digit saves.
