Panthers Erupt For Four Goals in Win Against No. 3 Franklin Pierce

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women's soccer team explodes for four goals in 4-1 win on opening day against No. 3 Franklin Pierce on Thursday, Aug. 27.

GAME NOTES

  • Both teams felt each other out while committed early fouls.
  • Alice Mottershead scored the Panthers first goal of the 2026 season as she lobbed the ball over the outstretched arm of Franklin Pierce's goalkeeper. Assist credited to Lotte Waibel.
  • Anae Malbete fired a shot on goal, but FPU's keeper was able to push it over the top of the net.
  • In the 17th minute, the Panthers kept the pressure on the Ravens defense, but a save by the keeper ended Tech's threat to score.
  • Franklin Pierce earned a corner in the 22nd minute. The Ravens were able to get a shot off, but it missed wide right.
  • From there on, neither team fired a shot at the net until the final minute of the half where the Ravens attempted to tie the game, but Kaitlin Sinkler was there to earn the save. 
  • FPU came out of half connecting multiple passes. They fired a shot in the 48th minute which resulted in a corner for the Ravens. Off the corner, Franklin Pierce got a shot off on the Panthers goal that was saved by Kaitlin Sinkler.
  • Nina Santiago ripped a shot outside the box which snuck passed the Raven goalkeeper for the Panthers second goal of the match.
  • Tech struck again in the 61st minute as Alice Mottershead notched her second goal of the afternoon off assists from Lotte Waibel and Eboni Bradshaw.
  • Soon after in the 62nd minute, the Ravens responded by scoring off a free kick opportunity to shrink the Tech lead to 3-1. 
  • The Panthers earned back-to-back corners in the 64th minute which resulted in a shot and save by FPU.
  • Florida Tech capped the night off in the 79th minute where Maria Rojas found the back of the net for the first time as a Panther off assists from Lyneth Restrepo Sanchez and Nina Santiago.
  • Franklin Pierce would fire one final shot in the 89th minute, but Kaitlin Sinkler was there to save it.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Alice Mottershead led the way for the Panthers with five total points on two goals and one assist.
  • Nina Santiago, Maria Rojas and Lotte Waibel notched multi-point games.
  • Tech totaled six total assists in the match.
  • Florida Tech moves to 4-0-1 against schools from the Northeast-10.
  • The Panthers now have goals in 12 consecutive games dating back to October 29th of 2025.
