MELBOURNE, FLA – Florida Tech Athletics and Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine Luis Velez have announced the hiring of Melissa Gomez as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.  

"I am excited to have Melissa joining our sports medicine staff." Said Luis Velez, "She completes our expanded staff of five athletic trainers, and I look forward to the knowledge and talent she brings as we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our scholar-athletes."

Gomez comes to Florida Tech from the University of South Florida. In her time with the Bulls, she worked with Track and Field, Women's Soccer and Men's Soccer. She assisted in daily practice and meet coverage, providing injury evaluation, rehabilitation, and emergency care for Division I student-athletes. Gomez also provided injury management, rehabilitation assistance, and game-day coverage.

She has also spent time with Florida Atlantic University, serving as an assistant athletic trainer for the Owls Division I Football program. Gomez conducted injury evaluation, implemented prevention and rehabilitation programs, and provided on-field medical coverage. Following her time at FAU, Gomez worked with Inter Miami FC of Major League Soccer. Gomez assisted with treatment, recovery, and rehabilitation protocols for First Team players, including sideline hydration, practice/game setup, and emergency care support during MLS training and matches.

Gomez holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from Florida Atlantic and a Master of Science in Athletic Training (CAATE Accredited Professional Program) from South Florida. She is a member of the American Heart Association and has certificates in BLS, CPR, & AED. Gomez is a member of multiple athletic training organizations, including Stop the Bleed and the National Athletic Training Students' Association.
