Athletic Aid & Financial Aid

A.K.A Grant-In-Aid Award

Terms and Conditions:
  • Athletic Aid is a one-year agreement
  • A coach may recommend that aid be renewed each year for a period of 4 years
Reduction or Cancellation of Aid During Period of Award
  • Your aid may be reduced/cancelled if you become ineligible, engage in serious misconduct, or voluntarily withdraw from your team
  • Athletic aid cannot be reduced/cancelled during the academic year for athletics reasons
  • If your athletic aid is cancelled or reduced, you are guaranteed the opportunity to have a hearing 
If there is a reduction or cancellation during the period an award, Florida Tech must provide a hearing opportunity:
  • Notification must come from Financial Aid
  • Must include hearing policies
  • Must include a deadline for requesting the hearing
  • Hearing must be conducted within 14 days
Permissible Sources of Financial Aid:
  • Funds given out by the Institution
  • Non-institutional financial aid (outside scholarships with athletics as major criteria)
  • Other permissible aid (loans and parents)
There are Individual Limits on Financial Aid based on:
  • The cost of attendance set by institution
  • Tuition and Fees, Room and Board and required books and supplies
Each team has “Equivalency Team Limits”
  • Each Team has a maximum amount of aid they can spend. If you are awarded any outside aid/scholarship that have your athletic skill or record as part of the requirement, this counts against the team limits, and you must report them ASAP to the Compliance and Financial Aid Offices

Financial Aid Renewals
  • You must be notified by July 1 of your athletic scholarship for the following year
  • The notification must be in writing
  • The notification must come from the Financial Aid Office.  (i.e., they must sign the agreement)
  • ALL AGREEMENTS MUST BE IN WRITING. The financial aid agreement is for one year, per NCAA Legislation. The scholarship document is the ONLY binding contract between the institution and the student-athlete.  Florida Tech will not honor any verbal agreement or written agreements (email) outside of the scholarship.
