BOOSTERS

A "booster" is an individual who is known (or who should have been known) by a member of the institution's executive or athletics administration to:
  1. Have participated in or to be a member of an agency or organization, including corporate entities (e.g., apparel and equipment companies), promoting the institution's intercollegiate athletics program;
  2. Have made financial contributions to the athletics department or to an athletics booster organization of that institution
  3. Be assisting or to have been requested (by the athletics department staff) to assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes
  4. Be assisting or to have assisted in providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families or
  5. Have been involved otherwise in promoting the institution's athletics program

Note: Once an individual is identified as such a representative, that person retains that identity indefinitely.

 

RECRUITMENT OF PROSPECTIVE SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

A prospective scholar-athlete is defined as a student who has started classes for the ninth grade. An individual remains a prospective scholar-athlete until one of the following occurs:
  1. The individual officially registers and enrolls in a minimum full-time program of studies and attends classes in any term of a four-year collegiate institution’s regular academic year (excluding summer); or
  2. The individual participates in a regular squad practice or competition at a four-year collegiate institution.

Boosters Are Permitted To:
  • View a prospective scholar-athlete's athletics contest on their own initiative but may not contact the PSA on such occasions.
  • Have on-campus contact
  • Have written communication with the PSA
  • Recruiting contacts by boosters during a PSA's official visit are confined to campus
Boosters Are Not Permitted To:
  • Communicate with a PSA or their relatives or legal guardian(s) before June 15, immediately preceding their junior year in high school
  • Make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts or telephone calls with a PSA or the PSA's relatives or legal guardians
  • Be involved, directly or indirectly, in making arrangements or giving or offering to give any financial aid or other benefits to the PSA or their relatives, legal guardian(s) or friends, other than expressly permitted by NCAA legislation

Eligibility Effects of Recruiting Violation 
Any violation found in the recruitment of a prospective scholar-athlete shall result in the scholar-athlete being ineligible to represent the institution in intercollegiate athletics unless otherwise specified.

 

BENEFITS FOR ENROLLED SCHOLAR-ATHLETES

General Rule: A scholar-athlete (or their relatives or friends) shall not receive a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation or receive a benefit from the institution or a booster unless it is demonstrated that the same benefit is generally available to the institution's students (or their relatives or friends). 

Not Permitted:
  • Cash or loans in any amount
  • Providing an automobile or the use of an automobile
  • Special discounts or credit on purchases of goods or a service
  • Providing free or reduced rent/housing
  • Paying or providing the actual and necessary expenses (room, board, or transportation) incurred by friends or relatives to visit an enrolled scholar-athlete

Permitted
  • A scholar-athlete or the entire team in a sport may receive an occasional family home meal from a booster, provided the meal is in the individual's home, on campus, or at a facility that is regularly used for home competition and may be catered. The booster may provide reasonable local transportation to student-athletes to attend such meals.

Donate To The Athletic Department or Your Favorite Team: Your donations provide scholar-athletes with the resources they need to succeed on and off the field, fostering a strong sense of community and school spirit.

Help Provide NIL and Internship Opportunities: If you know of any internship positions or NIL opportunities in your business or the community, please contact the Florida Tech compliance office before initiating contact with the scholar-athlete. The compliance office will ensure that all NCAA guidelines are being met.

Report Potential Violations to the Compliance Office: If you know of or suspect an NCAA violation involving Florida Tech scholar-athletes, please report it to the compliance office as soon as possible.
