What you need to know about Countable Athletically Related Activities

In-Season-Championship Segment
In season, a student-athlete may participate in countable athletically related activities as follows:Â
- No more than 20 hours of activity per week (Sunday through Saturday).
- No more than 4 hours of activity per day.
- Must be given one day off per week.Â
- A travel day, with no other activity, is considered a day off.

Non-Championship Segment Activities
In season, a student-athlete may participate in countable athletically related activities as follows:Â
- Â All Sports:
- No more than 15 hours of activity per week during 45-consecutive calendar day period (Sunday through Saturday).  May omit vacation and exam days so long as no practice/competition take place.
- No more than 4 hours of activity per day.
- Must be given two days off per week. Â
Out-of-SeasonÂ
Out-of-season, a student-athlete may participate in countable athletically related activities as follows:Â
- No more than 8 hours of conditioning, weight training or team/individual skill instruction per week (Sunday through Saturday).Â
- Team activities/Individual skill instruction may not exceed 4 hours per week.  Team skill instruction may only occur until day before the declared start of the non-championship segment.
- No more than 4 hours of activity per day.Â
- Must be given two days off per week.Â
Voluntary Athletically Related Activities
- Must be initiated by the student-athleteÂ
- Activities may not be reported to the coachesÂ
- Scholar-athletes may not be required to attendÂ
- May only be observed for safety purposes by an appropriate trainer or strength and conditioning coach
- Scholar-athletes may not be rewarded or punished for participating
Exceptions
- In sports with a safety exception, a coach may be present for voluntary activities to provide safety instruction only (i.e., coach may not conduct the workout).
- In individual sports during a vacation period, a scholar-athlete may request a coach be present for a voluntary activity and provide instruction.
