Security Resources 1 Immediate Response — What to Do Right Now If a scholar-athlete or any individual is seriously injured or ill, follow these steps in order. Multiple responders should act simultaneously. 1 Provide Immediate Care Certified athletic trainer (or most qualified person present) attends to the injured individual. Do not move the person unless there is immediate danger. 2 Call 911 From cell phone: dial 911. From campus landline: dial 9-911. Provide: your name, location, number of injured, condition, first aid given, and specific directions. Stay on the line. 3 Call Campus Security Dial (321) 674-8111 (or 8111 from campus phone). Security will direct EMS to the scene. A call box is also located adjacent to the baseball bleachers near the concession stand. 4 Retrieve Emergency Equipment AED, trauma kit, and splint bag. During games: on sidelines. During practices: in the athletic training room. A second AED is located in front of the concession stand. 5 Guide EMS to Scene Panther Athletic Complex: Assign one person to the Harris Village parking lot and one person to the field gate entrance to direct emergency vehicles. See Section 3 for venue-specific access points. Varsity Training Center: Assign one person in the VTC parking lot. 2 Athletic Training Staff Contacts A certified athletic trainer will be present or on call for all practices and competitions. Babcock past W. University Blvd., take the second right onto Engineering Street. First left into Harris Village Campus Apartments. The complex is on the right. Entrance #1 — Red Dot 1 (Baseball & Softball) Right field wall of Seminick/Hall Field and northeast end of Stottler Field. Use for baseball and softball emergencies. Entrance #2 — Red Dot 2 (Lacrosse & Soccer) Bench side, southeast end of Stottler Field. Use for lacrosse and soccer emergencies. IMPORTANT: All gates to the complex and emergency access gates must remain unlocked during any workout, practice, or competition. Varsity Training Center (VTC) 📍 3300 Psychology Pl, Melbourne, FL 32901 Directions From S. Babcock, head west on W. University Blvd., turn left on Country Club Road. VTC is at the end of Country Club Road, southwest corner of campus. Main Entrance — Orange Dot 3 (In-Facility Emergencies) Middle of the east side of the VTC. Use for in-facility emergencies. Southeast Gate (Practice Field Emergencies) Southeast corner of VTC. Use for VTC practice field emergencies. 4 ⚡ Lightning Policy Sports Medicine staff, coaches, and athletics staff monitor the Weather Sentry app. The athletic trainer will communicate with game officials before the contest if weather is a potential threat. Lightning within 10 miles WARNING issued. Monitor closely. Lightning within 8 miles STOP PLAY immediately unless All-Clear notice is active on the app. 30 minutes clear within 8 miles Athletic trainer communicates the All-Clear to the home team coach and officials before play resumes. Home team: Varsity Training Center. Visiting team: Team bus (first option) or Varsity Training Center if bus is unavailable. Spectators: Personal vehicles. ⚠ NOT CONSIDERED SAFE SHELTER: Dugouts, Bench Covers, Stottler Stand Canopy, Concession stand overhang, or the Wakefield Batting Facility. 5 Other Natural Emergency Evacuation In the event of other natural emergencies (tornado, severe storm, etc.), the public address announcer will alert attendees. Florida Tech Security officers will advise on evacuation routes based on the situation.
