Jen Mercurio was promoted to Deputy Athletic Director on June 7, 2024.
Mercurio has the responsibility of sports supervision for women's soccer, softball, men's rowing, and men's and women's swimming. Mercurio also oversees NCAA Compliance and Scholar-Athlete Services. Mercurio will also continue to serve as the Senior Woman Administrator, representing Florida Tech on various conference committees and helping to provide oversight and support for Title IX and gender equity initiatives.
Mercurcio was hired in August 2008 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Women’s Administrator and was promoted in December 2012.
Mercurio serves as a senior member of the administrative team for the Director of Athletics and provides leadership, administrative support, and supervision to all persons in the assigned units of Strength and Conditioning, Compliance Coordinator, Athletic Training, and Academics.
She serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator and monitors gender equity issues and student-athlete welfare. Additionally, she submits and developes all NCAA and SSC reports, including APC, Institutional Self-Study, NCAA Sports Sponsorship, Demographic form, Graduation Rates, squad lists, and eligibility checklists for all 12 varsity sports programs and the more than 400 athletes at Florida Tech.
Prior to coming to Melbourne, Mercurio served as the Assistant Director of Compliance and then Director of Compliance at her alma mater, Virginia Commonwealth University, from July 2005 to August 2008. In her role, she input team and individual financial aid limits for more than 300 student-athletes according to NCAA, CAA, and VCU policies. Mercurio partnered with Athletic Advising, Admissions, Financial Aid, International Admissions, Records, and Registration offices regarding all incoming and current student-athletes eligibility. Along with many other duties, she served as a liaison between the NCAA Eligibility Center and the prospective student-athletes, coaches, and VCU regarding issues of initial eligibility and amateurism certification.
Mercurio has served on several organizations and committees during her career, including the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators (NACWAA), the National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC), the Regional Advisory Committee, and the Sunshine State Conference.
A former Division I women’s soccer player, Mercurio graduated from VCU with a bachelor’s of science degree in physical education in 2001 and then earned a master of science in recreation, parks and sport leadership from VCU in 2003.
