Val Silvestrini enters her 18th season as head coach of the Florida Tech softball program in 2026–27, where she has established one of the most successful eras in program history. Over her tenure, she has compiled a 469–349-1 record and became the program’s all-time winningest coach on April 3, 2021, surpassing Hall of Famer Dr. Nancy Bottge’s previous mark of 316 wins. Silvestrini is also the only coach in program history to win both a Sunshine State Conference Championship and an NCAA South Region title.
Under her leadership, Florida Tech has achieved consistent competitive success at both the conference and national levels. The Panthers compiled a 31-17-1 record, marking the program's 12th season with 30-plus wins. Tech defeated three ranked opponents, including the highest ranked win in program history against No. 2 Angelo State. The team finished fourth in the SSC with a 17-12 record for their highest finish since 2020. Emma Chisholm became the program's fourth All-American and second player to make NFCA First Team. ...She broke the single season program records for slugging percentage, home runs, extra-base hits, RBI and total bases. Chishol also became the third to earn SSC player of the Year, leading the conference in batting average, OPS, home runs, slugging, OBP and total bases. Five Panthers were selcted on the CSC All-District Team and four made an All-SSC Team.
In 2023, the Panthers finished 28–22 overall and 16–14 in SSC play, placing fifth in the conference. Cheyenne Nelson earned First Team All-SSC honors, while Jolie Miracle was named to both the Second Team and All-Defensive Team. Nelson became the only player in program history to earn First Team All-SSC honors three times, and Miracle became the first catcher since 2005–06 to earn consecutive All-SSC selections. The team also placed five student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District Team, and Nelson earned her third NFCA All-South Region honor.
The 2022 season saw continued success, as Silvestrini guided the Panthers to a 32–20 record and a .500 mark in SSC play. Six players earned All-SSC recognition, and the program produced multiple academic and regional award winners, reflecting both athletic and classroom success.
One of the most historic seasons under Silvestrini came in 2019, when Florida Tech won its first Sunshine State Conference title, reached a program-high No. 4 national ranking, and advanced to the NCAA South Super Regional. The Panthers tied the program record with 42 wins, including 23 in conference play, and Melanie Murphy became just the second All-American in program history.
In 2015, Silvestrini led Florida Tech to its most successful season at the time, earning the program’s first NCAA postseason appearance and capturing the NCAA South Region Championship to reach the Super Regional round. The Panthers finished 38–20 overall, earned their first national ranking (No. 19 NFCA), and established a new standard for the program.
Silvestrini has consistently guided the Panthers to 20-win seasons throughout her tenure, including 118 wins in her first five seasons. She has also developed numerous All-SSC and All-Region performers, including Brianna Barth, a three-time All-South Region Second Team selection and 10-time All-SSC honoree during her career.
Before arriving at Florida Tech, Silvestrini served as an assistant coach at the University of North Florida, where she helped guide the Ospreys to consecutive winning seasons and strong Atlantic Sun Conference finishes. She also held assistant coaching positions at Charleston Southern University and Armstrong Atlantic State University, where she earned her master’s degree in sports medicine. At Armstrong, she helped develop multiple all-conference players and guided the team to a top-25 national finish.
Internationally, Silvestrini was a member of the Argentine National Team from 1998 to 2007 and served as team captain from 2005 until her retirement. She competed in major international tournaments including the Pan-American and South American Championships, earning individual honors such as Player of the Year and Best Hitter during her playing career.
As a collegiate player at Armstrong Atlantic, Silvestrini was a standout outfielder, earning All-Conference, All-Region, and All-Tournament honors while hitting .410 in her senior season. She remains among the program’s all-time leaders in multiple offensive categories.
Silvestrini earned her bachelor’s degree in physical education teaching and coaching from ISEF N° 1 “Dr. Enrique Romero Brest” in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and holds a Master of Science in Sports Medicine from Armstrong Atlantic State University. She also holds a National Strength and Conditioning Association certification.
