Will Murphy was named head coach of the Florida Tech men’s basketball program in April 2025, becoming the 12th head coach in program history.
Murphy arrived in Melbourne after an eight-year tenure at Wofford College, where he steadily rose through the ranks and played a key role in one of the most successful stretches in program history. Originally hired as director of basketball operations in 2017, he was promoted to assistant coach later that year and elevated to associate head coach in August 2023. During his time with the Terriers, Murphy helped guide the program to seven consecutive winning seasons, multiple postseason appearances, and sustained success in the Southern Conference.
A highlight of his tenure came during the 2018–19 season, when Wofford went 30–5 overall and a perfect 18–0 in conference play, capturing the SoCon Tournament title and earning a No. 7 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Terriers secured the program’s first NCAA Tournament win with a victory over Seton Hall and finished the season ranked No. 19 in the AP Top 25. Murphy contributed heavily to recruiting, player development, game planning, and scouting, helping develop multiple All-Conference performers, including SoCon Players of the Year Fletcher Magee and B.J. Mack. Wofford’s success during his tenure also included a road win over No. 17 North Carolina and consistent postseason appearances, even through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the 2019–20 season, Murphy was recognized for his contributions to the profession by being named to the NABC Under Armour 30-Under-30 list.
Before joining Wofford, Murphy spent one season as director of player development at Wake Forest. He also served three seasons in Winston-Salem as the program’s video coordinator and director of technology and scouting.
Murphy began his career at Wake Forest as a student manager before earning a spot on the active roster as a walk-on guard. He graduated from Wake Forest in May 2013 with a degree in mathematical business.
