No. 3 Women's Soccer Upends No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-1

HICKORY, N.C. - In a early season top 10 matchup, No. 3 Florida Tech (4-0) came away victorious over No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne (1-1) by a 2-1 score Friday evening at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex.

Kelly Whittaker and Carly Hunt provided the goals to help the Panthers remain undefeated on the season.

Whittaker tallied a goal in the 43rd minute when she picked up the ball off a corner kick and lobbed a shot over the Bears' goalkeeper for the score.

Hunt extended the Panthers' lead to 2-0 in the 84th minute when she scored from the right side after one-touching the ball in the box and connecting on the goal.

Lenoir-Rhyne's lone goal of the match came with just 4:38 remaining which cut the margin in half on a penalty kick by Catherine Hauck but Florida Tech was able to hold on for its fourth win of the season.

Mist Eliasdottir was brilliant in goal for the Panthers as she picked up the win after allowing just one score and making eight saves. Lenoir-Rhyne goalkeeper Caitlin Scruggs tallied five saves in the losing effort.

Florida Tech's win snapped a nine-game home winning streak for Lenoir-Rhyne, which dated back to 2009, as well as the Bears' 10-game win streak that went back to October 23, 2010.

The Panthers are back in action visiting Catawba on Sunday for a match beginning at 12 p.m.
