Barry Silences Florida Tech 3-1

Box Score

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Volleyball) – With a sea of white behind them, Florida Tech went into its 'White Out' match against Barry with hopes that home court advantage would propel the Panthers to victory on Friday.

The contest started as such with FIT (13-15, 4-12 SSC) taking the opening set, however as the competition progressed the Panthers' momentum vanished as the Bucs (14-11, 8-7 SSC) took control and won the match in four sets (22-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21).

Not a single Panther player finished with double-digit kills for the first time in six matches. FIT recorded 46 kills as a team with 24 attacking errors against the Bucs.

Jenna Schaffer paced the Panthers with nine kills and 16 digs, while her running mate Kim Juriga also amassed nine kills to go along with two blocks and two digs. Marilyn Dick added eight kills and six digs to her team's effort. Despite registering just four kills against BU, Olivia Hersey made her presence known at the net, ending with a team-high five blocks in the match.

One bright spot was the play of the Panthers' setters, Kiersten Rosa and Ashtin Truesdale. Rosa collected a double-double on 16 assists and 16 digs, in addition to two blocks, while Truesdale picked up 14 assists and nine digs. At libero, Becca Bower collected 13 digs and seven assists.

Really having a rough go-of-it against BU was Alea Hamm, who notched just six kills and no blocks for the first time in 2015.

Three Bucs ended the contest with double-digit kills. Leading the pack was Kaitlin Drake who smashed 18 kills to go along with 13 digs. Ivana Didanovic and Laine Cielena added to BU's onslaught, recording 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Jasmine Serna led all players with 44 assists, as well as getting her hand in on 13 digs and three kills, while Brittany Jaco ended with a match-high 24 digs.

The Panthers were held to an attack percentage of just .138 compared to the .231 produced by the Bucs. Usually effective at the net, FIT finished with only five total team blocks, tying the third lowest output by the Panthers this season.

FIT will look to turn it around in their season finale on Saturday against No. 9 Palm Beach Atlantic (25-4) at 7 p.m. ET. The Sailfish swept Florida Tech 3-0 in the teams' previous meeting on Oct. 23 in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Saturday's match is the Panthers' Senior Night as the team says farewell to six seniors prior to the start of the opening set. The contest will also serve as a "Black Out", with the first 200 fans receiving a black out T-shirt.
