Florida Tech Jumps Out to Early Lead, Exacts Revenge on Tritons 3-1

Box Score

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Volleyball) – Florida Tech entered Friday's matchup seeking to make up for a disappointing four-set loss to Sunshine State Conference rival Eckerd earlier this campaign. In a tightly contested home match played at Palm Bay Magnet High School, the Panthers got off to a quick start against the Tritons, tallying wins in the first two sets, en route to a 3-1 victory over EC (25-17, 30-28, 18-25, 25-22).

The result improves the Panthers' record in home contests this season to 7-3.

Pacing FIT in the win was Alea Hamm, who notched 14 kills and seven blocks, both tied season-highs for the senior. Hamm also recorded a match-high .370 attack percentage against the Tritons. Kim Juriga was second on the team with 12 kills in addition to two blocks, while Jenna Schaffer registered a double-double on 11 kills, 13 digs and five blocks.

Marilyn Dick was just short of a double-double herself, as the senior tallied nine kills and 10 digs. Freshman Kiersten Rosa had what could be her best performance of the season, finishing with 25 assists, 12 digs, five kills and two blocks. Rosa's counterpart at setter, Ashtin Truesdale, added 25 assists of her own to go along with six digs. Becca Bower was all over the place for the Panthers, as the libero picked up 19 digs in the win.

For Eckerd, Tjasa Kotnik had a monster game at the net, recording a match-high 21 kills and 10 digs. Mackenzie Redner was next in line for the Tritons, collecting 13 kills. Emily Schadow dished out a match-high 41 assists and EC's libero, Kaitlyn Sibson, picked up 21 digs in the loss.

FIT won the efficiency battle at the net, converting their offensive attempts at a .283 clip, while EC notched a .242 attack percentage for the match. The Panthers' block party was also on display, as FIT tallied 11 total team blocks to the Tritons' 7.5 blocks.

The Panthers get the weekend off, but will return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 10 when FIT welcomes No. 19 Florida Southern to the Clemente Center. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.

The Mocs defeated FIT with ease in the teams' first contest this season, a 3-0 sweep of the Panthers on Oct. 6 in Lakeland, Florida.
