MELBOURNE, Fla. (Volleyball) – Florida Tech volleyball will be looking to win two-in-a-row as it welcomes No. 17 Florida Southern for a Sunshine State Conference bout on Tuesday at the Clemente Center.
Heading into Tuesday's matchup, the Panthers (12-13, 3-10 SSC) are fresh off a 3-1 home victory over SSC foe Eckerd on Friday. With the result, FIT has now split the season series between the two teams at one win apiece.
Alea Hamm paced the Panthers with 14 kills and seven blocks in the match, while Kim Juriga tacked on 12 kills and two blocks. Jenna Schaffer and Kiersten Rosa also had strong showings for FIT. Schaffer notched 11 kills, 13 digs and five blocks and Rosa added a double-double of her own with 25 assists, 12 digs, five kills and two blocks.
The Panthers hope the great play continues as they face FSC (21-6, 8-5 SSC) for the second time this season. In the earlier contest, the Mocs swept FIT 3-0 on Sept. 6 in Lakeland, Florida.
Marilyn Dick led the Panthers in the first matchup with nine kills and six digs, while Hamm was next in line with eight kills and two blocks. Ashtin Truesdale finished with a match-high 25 assists in addition to eight digs and three kills in the loss.
Kendall Marotti and Anna Tovo each finished with double-digit kills in the first meeting, racking up 16 and 12 kills respectively. Marotti also collected 12 digs in the win. Bethany Besancenez and Lauren Shlemon combined for 37 of the Mocs' 43 assists against the Panthers.
