ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Men's Soccer) –
Adin Kavara fired in a pair of early goals and Florida Tech never looked back Tuesday night, cruising past Eckerd in a 5-1 non-conference tilt between two Sunshine State Conference foes.
Kavara ended up with a hat trick in the contest, the first since he completed the feat against St. Thomas on Sept. 4, 2014. The Norwegian native now has seven goals on the season, tied for seventh in the SSC.
The Panther offense and defense combined to stifle the Tritons, outshooting EC 18-7, including an 8-3 disparity in shots on goal.
It took Kavara less than ten minutes to open scoring, hitting the back of the net from the top of the six-yard box on a cross from
Robbie Madden. Mere minutes later, the senior doubled the Panther lead on an assist by
Fabian Egbele.
Josh Thomas widened the gap further in the 32
nd minute, placing the ball in the upper left corner of the goal from distance. The Tritons managed to stop the bleeding just before the half, getting on the board with a penalty kick in the 43
rd minute.
Just under 13 minutes into the second half, Kavara completed his trifecta, heading in another feed from Madden at the top of the six-yard box.
Per Henrik Nag finished off the Tritons with less than seven minutes to go, dribbling past a defender and beating the Eckerd keeper.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, hosting Tampa at Rick Stottler Field at 7 p.m. ET. As the last home game of the season, the contest will serve as FIT's Senior Day.
