Panthers’ Win Streak Ends in Loss to Bucs

Florida Tech was dealt its second loss of season, first in SSC play, in 2-1 defeat to Barry on Senior Night

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men's Soccer) – Florida Tech men's soccer saw its six-game win streak come to an end Saturday evening, as the Panthers dropped a 2-1 decision to Sunshine State Conference foe Barry on Senior Night at Rick Stottler Field.

The loss was the first in league play for No. 12 Florida Tech, who dropped to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the SSC. Barry improved to 2-5-2 on the season and 2-4-1 in SSC action.

The matchup between the Panthers and Buccaneers was extremely physical and featured 31 total fouls and four yellow cards. FIT accounted for 13 fouls and one card on the night.

Florida Tech finished with an advantage in shots, 19-13, and shots on goal, 6-4, while both teams attempted three corners.

Stian Hagboe Olsen and Josh Thomas each tallied three shots, placing one and two on goal, respectively. Toby Fura, who scored both goals for BU in the contest, and Frank Lustig led the Bucs with three shots, apiece.

Christopher Page fell to 6-2 on the season while making two saves in goal. BU's Marco Sordi improved to 2-4-1 with five saves in the Bucs' net.

Fura opened the scoring in the 34th minute when he gathered a loose ball in the Panthers' box and fired it into the bottom left corner.

Florida Tech tied the game with 1:44 left in the first half, as Brandon Smalley dribbled past two defenders and found Italo Ramos alone at the top of the box. Ramos collected the pass, made one move and launched the ball to the left side of the net for his third goal of the season.

Then in the 70th minute, Fura received a pass from Lustig on the right side of the FIT net and scored past Page for the eventual game-winner.

The Panthers had a number of good opportunities to answer late in the game but nothing found the back of the Barry goal, as FIT fell for just the second time this season.

Florida Tech will look to bounce back next Wednesday, Oct. 18, as the Panthers welcome No. 9 Lynn to Rick Stottler Field for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Fans can access live coverage of the action at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
