WINTER PARK, Fla. (Men's Soccer) – Florida Tech men's soccer fell in its road finale against Rollins College, 4-2, Tuesday night at Barker Family Stadium.
The Panthers dropped to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Tars moved to 9-4-1 overall and 6-4 in the league.
Rollins outshot FIT, 12-10, in the contest, just the second time all season that the Panthers finished with less shot attempts than their opponent. However, the Crimson and Gray held a slight edge in corner kicks, 3-2.
Luuk Teurlinx (2-1) made just his third start in goal for the Panthers, finishing with three saves.
Brandon Smalley led FIT with four total shots, one on goal, while
Jan Hlavica produced two shots in the game.
Florida Tech got on the board just two minutes into the game when Hlavica connected on a
Josh Thomas cross and tapped it past RC's Drew Trautmann into the net. It was Hlavica's third goal of the season.
The Tars tied the game up, 1-1, on a goal by Ben Grant in the 36th minute.
The Panthers retook the lead at 53:44 as
Solomon Wheatley threaded a cross to the far post, finding Smalley for his seventh goal of the season.
Rollins quickly answered, knotting the game up at 2-2 in the 57th minute on a score by James Winchester. The Tars tallied two more goals, both by Stefan Avram, over the next 12:43 of game time to grab a 4-2 advantage with less than 22 minutes remaining.
Florida Tech had a few opportunities late in the game to try and add another goal but they were unsuccessful.
The Panthers look to bounce back from their second consecutive loss, and build momentum for the upcoming SSC Tournament, when they host No. 2 Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday at 7 p.m. ET at Rick Stottler Field. Fan can access live coverage of the action at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
