Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 24 Panthers Defeat Moccasins 2-1

Nag, Wheatley tally goals as FIT improves to 3-0 in SSC play

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Men's Soccer) – The 24th-ranked Florida Tech (6-1, 3-0 SSC) men's soccer team extended its win streak with a 2-1 victory over Sunshine State Conference foe Florida Southern (4-3, 2-2 SSC) Wednesday at Rick Stottler Field.

It was another rain-soaked game for the Panthers, who won their fourth straight game and improved to 3-0 at home this season.

Florida Tech outshot FSC 14-6 in the contest, while the Mocs finished with more corner kicks, 4-3. Christopher Page made four saves in the Panthers' net.

Per Henrik Nag and Solomon Wheatley each scored a goal to help FIT rally from an early deficit against the visiting Moccasins.

Florida Southern took a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute with a goal from Christoph Gums.

The Panthers evened the score at 1-1 in the 25th minute when Nag connected on Brandon Smalley's cross just in front of FSC goalkeeper Benny Yusufoglu. It was Nag's fourth goal and 11th point of the season.

In the 70th minute, Wheatley collected a pass from Jan Hlavica on the right side of the box and quickly fired a bouncer that snuck underneath Yusufoglu for the eventual game-winning goal. Wheatley now has three goals in his rookie campaign.

"The boys have a lot of belief in each other and continue to show their character in challenging situations like tonight," stated head coach Robin Chan. "The defense was strong in very tough conditions and dealt with everything thrown at them.

"Despite going against a very organized and tough to break down Florida Southern team, our offense was able to carve out enough chances to earn the result.  We are all looking forward to the next challenge on Saturday."

Next up for the FIT is a SSC road matchup against Embry-Riddle on Saturday, Oct. 7, at ERAU Soccer Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
