LAKELAND, Fla. (Women's Soccer) - Florida Tech (5-3-1, SSC 2-2) suffered its second loss of the season, as the Panthers fell to Florida Southern (6-1-1, SSC 3-1) on Wednesday night at Lake Myrtle Park.
The home team's offense tallied 10 shots, while FIT registered 18, six of which were on goal. Sophomore midfielder
Maria Munoz notched a match-high of six shots. Counting the loss, Munoz still leads in the SSC for points (15) and for points per game average (1.88). The Weston-native also ranks second for shots (31) and shot per game average (3.88).
Also aiding in tonight's offensive efforts, fellow teammate
Keira McCarthy picked up four shots, while
redshirt-senior Elin Svennson collected a team-high of two shots on goal.
In the 26Â minute of play, the
Mocs broke through the score 1-0, turning a corner kick into a goal that came from inside of the box. Fighting back, the Panthers put pressure of their own on the Florida Southern goalie, as they tallied four shots in a six minute-span. Unable to find the back of the net, Florida Tech left the first period trailing by one.
Entering the second ahead by one, Florida Southern would find the back of the Panthers net, just three minutes into the second half to overlap FIT, 2-0. In the second period, the Crimson and Gray continued to take scoring opportunities, as they bettered the
Mocs shot attempts, 9-4.
Coming up short again in the second half, the Panthers offensive attempts were ceased by the
Mocs, and eventually dropped, 2-0.
Florida Tech will now return to Rick
Stottler Field on Saturday night to host SSC rival Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. ET.
