MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women's Soccer) -Â On a breezy Saturday evening at Rick
Stottler Field, Florida Tech (5-3-2, SSC 2-2-1)
ended with its first SSC tie against Embry-Riddle (3-4-2, SSC 1-3-2).
In the evening outing, the Panthers
tallied18 shots, six of which were on goal. Junior forward
Keira McCarthy and sophomore defender
Samantha Grim clutched four shots apiece, with McCarthy placing two on goal.
The Panthers trio of
Maria Munoz,Â
Kiana Zanganeh and Monica
Zabian recorded three shots apiece. In addition,Â
Zabian recorded a season-high two shots on goal.
In between the goal posts, red-shirt seniorÂ
Karlyn Prisco picked up seven saves to bump up her seasonal total to 44. After the Saturday performance,
Prisco ranks fourth in the SSC for saves, averaging 4.40 saves per game.
Starting the game off evenly matched, both squads provided offensive pressure in a race to reach the scoreboard first. However, Florida Tech quickly changed pace, notching four shots within eight minutes of play.
Continuing to pressure the Eagles defense, the Panthers took an additional six shots before heading into the half. At the intermission, the Crimson and Gray added 10 shots, besting the Eagles by five. For the Panthers, the duo of
Zabian and McCarthy coupled to place four on goal. In between the goal posts, both goalkeepers recorded four saves apiece.Â
Beginning the second half, Florida Tech immediately established their position on the Eagles defensive half, tallying an additional two shots and one shot on goal.
Starting to make a push around the 64-minute mark, Embry-Riddle took two consecutive shots that went just wide on the Panthers goal posts. Shortly after, the Eagles went on a breakaway that forced
Prisco out of the goal. The
Rockledge-native raced to the ball against
ERAU forward Maria
Schmiedhofer to make a sliding save, which allotted the Eagles with a corner kick.
Remaining consistent with its offensive efforts,
ERAU increased its shot total to 17, with five being put onto goal before the end of regulation.
Entering the first overtime with a bare scoreboard, the Panthers tried to create momentum, racing into the attacking third. However, the Eagles rallied back reaching the Panthers goal area and delivered a shot, which went wide.
Score tied at 0-0, the game was pushed into the second overtime. With the time running low, Florida Tech sped up the rhythm, shooting into the Eagles net. However, the Weston-natives' shot was punched out of the top right corner of the net by the
ERAU goalie.
After a Munoz shot, FIT kicked two consecutive corner kicks that produced two shots. After multiple scoring opportunities, the Crimson and Gray fell short of driving the ball into the
ERAU net, ended the match in a tie.
Next, the Panthers head to Hallandale, Mich. to take on No. 4 Grand Valley State. The
Lakers look to avenge last year's loss to the Panthers, which came on Melbourne grass. Teams lineup at 7 p.m. ET.
