Florida Tech Drops to 0-2 in Loss to Clark Atlanta

Panthers handed 91-69 defeat to CAU, return to action Wednesday vs. Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's basketball team struggled in its game against Clark Atlanta on Saturday afternoon and fell for the second day in a row, 90-69, at Warden Arena.

FIT drops to 0-2 following its weekend at the South Region Tip-off, while CAU improves to 2-0.

Sam Daniel led the Crimson and Gray with a double-double on 29 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Majors finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists and Richard Coil notched his first career double-double with 13 points and a game-high 15 boards.

FIT shot 39.3 percent from the field and made 10-for-30 from three point range and 15-for-19 at the free throw line. CAU hit 45.5 percent of its attempts, including 7-for-27 from behind the arc, and knocked down 23-of-27 free throws. Florida Tech won the battle on the glass, 39-34.

Clark Atlanta jumped out to a 14-0 lead at the 15:31 mark of the first half.  A 15-7 run by FIT, capped by a pair of free throws from Daniel, cut the deficit to 21-15 with 9:15 remaining. CAU then proceeded on its own run, outscoring Florida Tech 25-8, and took a 46-23 lead into halftime.

CAU built its lead to as much as 27 points, 58-31, on a fast break layup by Akil Douglas with 15:05 left in the second half. FIT fought back and decreased the margin to 12, 65-53, on a trey by Daniel with 8:42 to go. 

Clark Atlanta regained momentum and increased its advantage back to 25 points on a steal and fast break layup by Anthony Williams with just over two minutes remaining. A rebound and put back by Coil with 42 seconds left made the score 88-67 before CAU closed the game at the charity stripe for the 21 point win.

Florida Tech is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 15, returning to Warden Arena for its Sunshine State Conference opener versus Rollins at 7:30 p.m.
