MELBOURNE, Fla. (Softball) - Florida Tech dominates Stonehill 14-3 for it's second consecutive run rule victory at Nancy Bottge Field. The Panthers stretched the lead wide open in the bottom of the fourth with 11 runs generated off two errors, a sacrifice fly, four singles, and a double.
Leading all stats for the Panthers was senior second baseman
Karina Suicava. She hosted a tremendous debut going 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI's off of a pair of doubles to left center. Behind her was teammate
Makayla Palmer who racked up a three run double on a ball hit to the left fielder. Also, contributing offensively,
Kaitlin Buchholz, Alexus Smith,
Krista Patterson, and
Hailey Leonard all generated an RBI each off of one sac fly and three singles. In the circle,
Amanda Kahn pitched four innings and sealed her third win of the season.
In a race to reach the score board, FIT struck first blood after Suicava punched in a two run double that was hit to the Skyhawks left fielder Michelle Carbone. Up by two, Stonehill allotted another run off a wild pitch that sent home Buccholz before the end of the second inning. However, after well fought offensive efforts, Stonehill grabbed two runs at the top of the third and another at the top of the fourth to tie the game.
Headed into the dugout in bottom of the fourth, the Panthers put their bats together for what turned out to be a long inning for both opposing pitchers Jennifer Mayette and Katherine Rayner. Straight from the start, FIT went off in the fourth with a total of 11 runs posted from six Panther players while batting around the lineup once. In the fifth, Amanda Pence and the Panther defense held Stonehill scoreless to walk away with a 14-3 victory.
The action continues tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. ET at Nancy Bottge Field where the Panthers set to face off against 4th ranked Armstrong State University for the final day of The Marriot Brawl at the Beach. Fans, check out the live action at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/fit/.
