DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Women's Basketball) – Florida Tech (11-13) had a rough go of it in its final road bout of the regular season Saturday night and fell to Sunshine State Conference provisional member Embry-Riddle (15-9) by the score of 65-45 at the ICI Center.
DeLise Williams led FIT with 11 points and four steals.
Tereza Sedlakova added nine points and three rebounds and
Michaela Gelbaugh tallied seven points.
ERAU's Tara Fields finished with a game-high 18 points while Mercedes Jorge (16) and Sigrid Sandstrom (13) also reached double-digits in the game.
The Panthers made just 31.4 percent (16-of-51) of their shots in the loss compared to the Eagles' 53.2 percent (25-of-47). ERAU also won the rebounding battle 32-28.
Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 7-1 lead to open the game and had a 16-9 advantage after the first quarter.
The Panthers cut the deficit to one, 18-17, on a jumper by
Amanda Allen with 4:58 remaining in the half. However, the Eagles regained control from there, outscoring FIT 16-5 the remainder of the second period, and took a 34-22 edge into halftime.
Florida Tech trailed by double-digits, and as much as 21 points, for most of the second half before eventually being handed its largest margin of defeat this season.
The Panthers will look to bounce-back on Wednesday, Feb. 22, when they host Tampa for FIT's Play4Kay game at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Clemente Center. Proceeds from the game will directly support women's cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund®. The game is part of a national fundraising initiative benefiting the Kay Yow Cancer Fund's support of women's cancer research.
