DAHLONEGA, Ga. (Women's Soccer) - Florida Tech (2-1-1) ends its road trip to Georgia with a 0-0 tie against the Nighthawks (1-1-2) after double overtime. Panthers goalkeeper
Karlyn Prisco records nine saves during the afternoon outing, and now holds a tie for first place for totals saves within the Sunshine State Conference standings with 17.
Although coming off a 2-1 win over Young Harris on Friday, Hurricane Irma remained in people's minds heading into Sunday's match against UNG. On the Panthers roster, 18 student-athletes hail from the Sunshine State, many of which may have had some uncertainties due to the storm creeping closer to the Florida coast. With worrying minds however, Florida Tech remained poised during the match against the Nighthawks, accumulating 12 shots, placing seven on goal while producing nine saves.Â
"Today's match was a hard fought battle that could have gone either way", said Head Coach
Dustin Smith. " We traded exchanges throughout the game, each having multiple opportunities but both defenses came up big. This was a good test for us as we continue to build for our upcoming conference games. I'm proud of these girls for battling on the road over that last 72 hours with all of the distractions going on with Hurricane Irma. Our thoughts an prayers are with everybody."
Leading the Florida Tech offense, midfielders
Maria Munoz and
Elin Svensson combined for eight shots, five of which were on goal. Both Panthers rank high in the conference standings for total shots, with Munoz recording 14 and Svensson tallying 12.
 Â
Defensively, Rockledge-native Prisco demonstrated another solid performance between the posts. The red-shirt senior recorded a conference-high nine saves against a demanding Nighthawk offense that took 22 shots over the span of the game.
Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, the Panthers have cancelled Wednesday's match against No. 2 Columbus State and will not be rescheduled.
