Munoz carries FIT in win over Lynn

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Women's Soccer) - Florida Tech (3-1-1) shares goals amongst two scorers in 4-1 win over Lynn (2-3) on Wednesday night at Rick Stottler Field.

The Panthers netted three goals in twenty-five minutes during the first half to put tonight's contest out of reach. The Crimson and Gray responded to Lynn's fifth-minute opening goal with pressure of their own, when at the 17 minute mark, sophomore Maria Munoz shot the tying goal and her second personal of the season.

"Lynn came out and pressured us into making several mistakes, capitalizing on one of them with the first goal of the evening," said Head Coach Dustin Smith "I give credit to Lynn for putting us on our heels. The goal really woke us up and luckily, we were able to recover. Tonight was a great win for our team, and I am happy that we were able to create some lucrative opportunities that allowed us to put the ball into the back of the net. The girls really fed off Maria Munoz's performance tonight, and I feel like we look more dangerous going forward."

Striking again in the 35 minute, Munoz made it 2-1 after she slotted it into the far corner. Seven minutes later, Brittany Etrick put the Panthers ahead, 3-1 on a header that came off a corner kick from teammate Brie Heitz. The score marked midfielder's first goal of the 2017 season.

Dialing in for the hat trick, Munoz reached net once again in the second half, notching her third goal of the night and fifth of the season. From 20 yards out, the Weston-native smashed the ball off the left goal post and found its way into the right side of the net. The score put the Panthers ahead 4-1 in the 71 minute, and placed Munoz in the fourth spot for goals inside the SSC.

Florida Tech bested Lynn 19-9 in shots, including a 14-4 advantage in the first half. In between the posts, Karlyn Prisco finished the night outing with three saves to earn the third seed in the Sunshine State Conference leader board.

FIT returns to the action on Saturday at Rick Stottler Field for Club Night, and officially opens conference play against Eckerd at 7 p.m. ET.
