Panthers' Winning Streak Snapped in Loss to Tritons

FIT saw its four-game win streak come to an end in 90-71 blowout loss at Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Florida Tech men's basketball team's four-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday with a 90-71 road loss to Sunshine State Conference foe Eckerd at the McArthur Center.

The defeat also ended FIT's (10-9, 5-6 SSC) four-game road win streak as the Tritons' (15-3, 8-3 SSC) earned the season sweep over the Panthers.

Patrick Anderson led Florida Tech with 18 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sam Daniel added 17 points and Jordan Majors recorded 15 points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Panthers made 44.8 percent from the field in the game and hit just 5-for-23 behind the arc. Eckerd knocked down 48.2 percent of its attempts, including 6-for-19 from long range. The Tritons drained 30-for-34 of their free throws, while the Panthers went 14-for-24.

Eckerd dominated FIT on the glass, 45-22, including a 14-6 edge in offensive boards that led to 23 points for the Tritons. EC also outscored the Panthers in the paint, 40-30.

The Tritons tallied the first seven points of the contest and led 17-4 with 15 minutes to go in the first half.

Florida Tech trimmed the margin to seven points, 20-13, on a free throw by Majors with 10:18 remaining. However, EC closed the half on a 24-14 run and took a 44-27 advantage into the break.

Eckerd's lead grew to a game-high 22 points on a three by Keshawn Ingram with 18:42 remaining. The Panthers would cut the deficit to 12 points, 55-43, with 13 minutes to go thanks to a 7-0 run and five points by Daniel, but that was the closest FIT would come the rest of the game.

The Tritons answered with a 9-0 run to build their lead to 21 points and then cruised the final 10:42 of the ball game, eventually winning by 19.

Florida Tech will look to bounce back when it returns to its home court at the Clemente Center for a showdown with SSC rival Rollins on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans can access live coverage of the matchup at FloridaTechSports.com/live.
