Florida Tech Wins Sixth Straight Home Match

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida Tech women's soccer (6-5-1, 3-2-0 SSC) pushed its unbeaten home streak to six straight as they took down Florida Southern (3-7-1, 1-4-0 SSC) in dominant fashion. The team earned its fifth clean sheet of the season with a 3-0 victory.

Maria Sanchez Recuero (6-5-1) was between the posts for her fifth shutout of the year (four solo and one combined). Recuero's backline companions only allowed two shot on goals during the contest.

The Panthers came out firing on all cylinders as the team jumped out to the early lead when Nicole Barnett (1) hit a high bouncer over the keeper from near midfield. The team continued to win the field position and shots battle, which resulted in the second goal of the half as Veronica Thordardottir (4) blasted one past the Mocs' keeper.

The momentum carried through to the second half, as the Crimson and Gray kept pushing the pace and outshot Florida Southern, 7-3. Senior Keira McCarthy converted one of those shots to make the game, 3-0. This goal marked seven on the season for the forward and put her in a tied for second in the Sunshine State Conference.

The final third of action saw many substitutions as both teams got younger players live collegiate experience. The two teams combined for a total of 14 personnel changes with five coming from the home bench.

Florida Tech will look to continue its winning ways on Saturday, Oct. 6, as the team heads north on I-95 for a match with the Eagles of Embry-Riddle. First kick at ERAU Soccer Stadium is set for 6 pm ET.
