MELBOURNE, Fla. - A strong offensive outing helped earn Florida Tech a 77-57 victory in the team's final exhibition of the year.
Leading the way against Webber was
Gracie Doane with 20 points, while
November Morton (14) and
Tereza Sedlakova (11) also had double-digit points.
Cheyenne Scott (7) was the lead rebounder for the team and
Fanny Hakanson (8) dished out the most assists.
The game started out in the Warriors favor as they took a 7-3 lead in about two and a half minutes worth of play. Florida Tech slowly chipped away at that lead before they finally took over for good at the 4:57 mark when a three by Morton that made it 16-13. The team finished the quarter out on a 5-2 run to make it 21-15 after 10 minutes.
The second quarter was all Florida Tech from start to finish as they punished the Warriors early and often. This outburst led them going up by 16 points twice in the quarter. Once the action stopped and the teams went into the locker room the Crimson and Gray had a 44-32 advantage.
The third quarter was almost a carbon copy of the second as the Panthers outscored the Warriors 23-17 over the 10 minutes. They also opened up their biggest lead of the night (22) with two minutes left in the quarter.
The final ten minutes of regulation saw a much slower and methodical brand of basketball as neither team scored much. This stark change from the first thirty minutes came about as both defenses began to clamp down and make their opponent work for any points they earned. This showed as the quarter split was 10-8 in favor of Florida Tech. This ended the game with a 77-57 scoreline as the Panthers came out on top.
Florida Tech will look to carry its hot shooting across the country to Anchorage, Alaska this weekend as they head there for the Great Alaska Shootout, hosted by Alaska Anchorage. The Panthers will take on the host school first on Friday, Nov. 23, at 9 p.m. then will do battle with Canadian opponent Simon Fraser on Saturday, Nov. 24.
