TAMPA, Fla. – In the team's final non-conference game of the year, Florida Tech women's basketball took the court opposite of Texas Woman's. It was a battle from start to finish but late-game heroics helped the Panthers prevail, 59-58.
Kailyn Ebb put together a big performance as she led all scorers with 17 points and came up with a team-high nine rebounds.
Fanny Hakanson dished out three assists but her most impressive play was the last second layup to win the game.
The Pioneers controlled the tempo for much of the first quarter as they held the lead for a majority of the period. However, a late surge by the Panthers tied it up with 51 seconds to go but that did not last as a TWU free throw made it 15-14 at the buzzer.
Texas Woman's opened the second quarter on a 9-1 run. But that all changed around the seven-minute mark as Florida Tech began to chip away at the nine-point lead. The Pioneers were held to only five more points while the Panthers put up 13.
Tereza Sedlakova continues her weekend dominance in the first half as the senior went 3-3 from the field and 1-2 from the stripe for a team-high seven points.
Tech came out firing in the second half as they outscored TWU 11-5 over the first five and half minutes of the third. But this did not last as the Pioneers on a run of their own and ended the period with a 47-45 advantage.
The back and forth battle continued into the final quarter of regulation as neither team could separate themselves. This lasted till the final second as a dagger by Hakanson with only .8 left on the clock gave Florida Tech the win, 59-58.
The Panthers will take a well-deserved holiday break before getting back at it on Dec. 30, when they head to Miami Shores, Florida for a Sunshine State Conference showdown with Barry. This game is set to begin at 2 p.m. ET and will be followed by Florida Tech's men's basketball game.
