MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Florida Tech shot a season-low 35.9 percent from the field and the Panthers dropped their first road game of the season, 95-68, Sunday at the Health & Sports Center.

Tech (6-5) has now lost two in a row and drops to 0-3 in the Sunshine State Conference, with all three losses coming by an average margin of 26 points. BU improves to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in SSC action.

Derek Murphy paced the Crimson and Gray with 16 points, two rebounds and two assists. Darius Wright added 13 points with four rebounds and two assists. Trey Schaneville and Nieja Jordan each came off the bench to score nine points, while RJ Coil hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Panthers never had a lead in the game and the only tie came with the score at 2-2 with 18:24 left in the first half.

Tech went on to make just one of its next 11 shot attempts after the early tie while the Bucs knocked down six of their first seven three-point tries, including four by Daniel Mortensen. That effort helped BU grab a 26-5 advantage with 12:13 to go before halftime.

A 16-7 run by the Panthers, triggered by a trio of threes from Schaneville and one from Jordan, cut the margin to a dozen points, 33-21, with 5:23 left in the half.

Barry controlled the final moments of the opening frame and pushed its advantage to 18 points at halftime following a buzzer-beating layup by Evan Walshe.

BU made 56.3 percent of its shots (18-of-32), including 10-of-15 from long range in the first half. The Panthers, on the other hand, made just 40 percent (12-of-30) of their attempts in the half and 6-of-16 beyond the arc.

The Bucs continued their hot-shooting in the second half, outscoring Tech, 9-2, early on to build their lead to 25 points, 57-32, with 16:48 to go. From there, the teams would exchange baskets for much of the remainder of the game.

Trailing by 22 points with 7:28 remaining, Wright and Chris Cummings combined for a 9-3 run to trim the Panthers' deficit to 16 points, 79-63. However, BU responded with a 16-1 run to build their advantage to a game-high 31 points with 1:20 still on the clock.

A pair of free throws from both Jordan and Phil Bernhard in the last minute made it a 27-point margin at the final buzzer as the Panthers lost their third straight game to Barry.

Florida Tech's shooting declined in the second half as the team made 11-of-34 (.324) in the frame, including 5-of-15 from long range. Barry shot 50 percent in the second half with 19 made baskets.

Barry won the rebounding battle, 48-37, over the Panthers. The Bucs also dominated in points in the paint, 44-16, and fast break points (25-3), while also posting assists on 24 of their 37 made field goals.

Tech did have a 6-2 edge in blocks in the contest, with Mekhii Noble accounting for four of those rejections.

After the New Year's festivities, the Panthers return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 2, hosting No. 7 Florida Southern in SSC action at the Clemente Center. Tipoff between Tech and FSC is set for 7:30 p.m.
