No. 20 Florida Southern Escapes FIT

DeLise Williams and Tereza Sedlakova carry FIT in 58-50 loss

LAKELAND, Fla. - On Saturday night, Florida Tech (9-13, SSC 6-10) fell to No. 20 Florida Southern (20-3, SSC 15-2), 58-50 at the George W. Jenkins Field House.

Leading the team in scoring, senior DeLise Williams drained 13 points for the Panthers, while collecting a team-best six rebounds and four assists. Joining in double-digit scoring, junior Tereza Sedlakova tallied 12 points on a 5-for-6 shooting effort, and pulled down five boards. Also contributing, senior Markeema Crawford added seven points to the FIT total, while Tanease Richardson recorded six.

As a team, Florida Tech shot 44.4 percent from the floor and 45.5 from the charity stripe. Additionally, the Crimson and Gray collected six steals, eight assists and one block. In the weekend outing, the Panthers held a 36-6 edge over the Mocs in bench points, and turned 18 FSC turnovers into 22 points.

In the first period, the teams traded baskets for the entire 10 minutes of action, as they closed the stanza tied, 12-12. However, Florida Southern took an 11-3 run in the second quarter to overlap the Panthers, 23-15. Rallying back, Florida Tech closed the margin to five, 31-26 before entering the locker room.

Returning from intermission, the Mocs kept Florida Tech at distance with a seven-point lead in the third period, before the Crimson and Gray tied things up at 46 around the six-minute mark in the final stanza. From there, the Lakeland squad jumped out to a 12-4 run, and wrapped up the 58-50 win. 

Florida Tech will now return home to host the Barry Buccaneers on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
