MELBOURNE, Fla. – Reid Chaconas and
Tajee Mobley combined for nine goals to propel Florida Tech (1-2) to its first victory of the season, 20-7, over Keiser (3-1) on Saturday at Panther Field.
Chaconas led the Crimson and Gray with a career-high five goals on seven shots, while Mobley recorded a career-best four goals and two ground balls.
Carson Clough,
Brett Pohlmeyer and
Justin Williams finished with two goals and one assist, apiece.
Tyler Covey dished out a game-high three assists.
As a team, the Panthers caused 14 turnovers.
Addison Abramson paced all players with four caused turnovers to go along with a team-high seven ground balls and his second goal of the season.
Lance Pavlina and
Ryan Land combined to go 19-for-29 at the faceoff x with 11 ground balls.
Daniel Flock finished with seven saves while facing 24 total shots in the Panthers' net.
Florida Tech doubled-up the Seahawks in shots, 57-24, and dominated the ground balls, 49-26.
The Panthers got off to a fast start against Keiser, going up 2-0 just 2:16 into the contest on unassisted goals by Pohlmeyer and Clough. Consecutive goals by KU's Craig Marentette knotted up the score at 2-2 with 3:47 left in the first quarter.
A moment later, FIT was able to force a cross-check penalty on the Seahawks' Channing Thomas and the Panthers earned their first man-up try of the game, and capitalized on the opportunity. Thirty seconds into the man advantage, Covey found
Logan Sweeney at the top of the box for a howitzer of a shot to put FIT ahead 3-2.
The goal was the beginning of a 6-0 spurt that gave the Panthers an 8-2 edge with 5:07 left in the first half.
Marentette's man-up goal with just over two minutes left in the half cut the margin to five. However, Pohlmeyer and Abramson scored in the final 1:18 of the half, the latter coming with one second left on the clock, to give FIT a 10-3 advantage after two quarters.
Chaconas scored his third of the game early in the second half to increase FIT's lead to 11-3. The Seahawks answered with consecutive goals by Hunter East over a 57 second span but the Panthers countered with five consecutive scores, two each by Mobley and Chaconas, to push their lead to 16-5 with 7:03 left.
Eddie Grieco tallied Keiser's third man-up goal of the game with 4:08 to go. On the ensuing faceoff, Land collected the draw and took it to the house for his first goal of the season. From there the Panthers outscored KU, 3-1, over the final 3:21 to earn its first win of the year by a 13-goal margin.
