KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Florida Tech would hit the road for a quick one-game neutral site meeting against the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots. The team would extend its winning streak to two straight as it shut out the Scots 9-0. The Panthers would strike early and often scoring in five of the nine innings.
Not only did the Crimson and Gray dominant offensively it had an equally impressive defensive performance lead by pitcher
Jake Lane (1-1) who would go six full innings giving up only two hits and striking out four of the 18 batters he faced.
Rhett Willis and
Drew Beyer would also see action on the mound combining for three "K's" and allowing zero hits versus the final 10 batters.
Leading off the offensive assault for the Panthers was senior catcher
Ryan Sinzenich who in the top half of the first sent a slow grounder to the shortstop which gave
James Gronberg enough time to cross the plate. The game would go quiet until the fourth inning when the team's bats truly came alive starting when
Jakob Newton would send a shot up the middle for a single that would turn into a two-base at-bat after an error that also allowed
Raul Quintero to reach home plate.
Rodnie Bernard would then take advantage of the Fighting Scot's misfortune when he would blast a shot into deep center that would see Newton add another tally to the scoreline.
Gronberg would then immediately hit another double for the team this time down the right field line which would send Bernard home.
Daniel Szpik would send the final run of the inning across as he would find a gap in center that would allow Gronberg to successfully leg it out.
Jacob Buser would increase his already impressive slugging percentage, .671%, when he crushed his fifth homer of the year in the top of the fifth.
FIT would continue its impressive display of hitting into the final three frames of the night as Quintero in the seventh would reach on an error-laden fielder's choice that saw Szpik tout across the home plate unimpeded. The team would garner its final two runs of the night in their last chance at the plate as
Bay McIntosh would come in to pinch hit for
Kevin Capella and he would smack a single toward second base which sent Sinzenich in to score. Newton would drive the last run of the night across as he hit a sacrifice fly that would allow Buser enough time to reach the plate safely.
