MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech women's basketball welcomed Palm Beach Atlantic to the Clemente Center on Saturday and the Panthers nabbed its second Sunshine State Conference victory of the season as they easily defeated the Sailfish, 72-46.
Amanda Allen (12) and
Tereza Sedlakova (10) were the two Panthers to eclipse double-digits in scoring.
Makyla Daniels (9) and
Fanny Hakanson (8) touted team-highs in rebounds and assists, respectively.
The Panthers started out on fire as they jumped out to a commanding 11-2 lead just 3:20 into the game. This momentum carried throughout the first quarter as the women limited the Sailfish to only two more points in the final 6:40. At the buzzer, Tech was ahead 21-4.
The second was not as kind to the Crimson and Gray as PBA had its own surge that saw them come back from the 17-point deficit to tie it at 30-30. But a Sedlakova layup followed by a steal off the inbound pass and layup by Gudluag Juliusdottir gave the Panthers a four-point advantage at the half.
Florida Tech regained its first-quarter momentum and proceeded to dominate the Sailfish in the second half. The Panthers controlled every aspect of the third period and found themselves ahead, 53-35, when the clock struck 0:00.
The fourth quarter was more of the same as the Panthers slowed down the action and found the open player for easy baskets. The 19-11 advantage in the period put the final score at 72-46.
Tech will look to carry this momentum into their game against rival Rollins College on Wednesday, Jan 23. This SSC matchup is set to take place at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Alfond Sports Center in Winter Park, Florida.
