Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Panthers Win in the Final Minute Against Nova

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Florida Tech women's basketball hit the hardwood on Wednesday, Jan. 5, as the team welcomed Nova Southeastern to the Clemente Center. Tech snapped its two-game skid as they won a tough one, 59-58.

Senior Tereza Sedlakova put together a huge performance as she led the team in points (16) and had a game-high nine rebounds. Three Panthers tallied a team-high two assists.

The game started out with Florida Tech firing as the women scored early and often. This led to a nine-point lead less than eight minutes into the contest and at the buzzer, the score was 17-11.

The second quarter was more tightly contested as both teams scored 14. This put the score at 31-25 as the teams went into the locker room.

Sedlakova was the main catalyst in the first half as she had 11 points, four rebounds and one assist.

The third quarter saw the momentum switch as the Sharks came out hot and slashed the six-point deficit to zero in less than two and a half minutes of play. Nova continued its run as they opened up a seven-point advantage of their own before ending the quarter ahead by three.

However, the third quarter stumble did not deter the Panthers as they dug deep and gutted out a win as they took back control. The women finally tied it at 54-54 with 1:01 left and then Gracie Doane pushed the team to win as she sank five of the team's six free throws.

At the final horn, Florida Tech outlasted NSU, 59-58, for the squad's first Sunshine State Conference win of the year.

The Panthers will hit the road on Wednesday, Jan. 9, for an SSC showdown with Saint Leo. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. ET at the Marion Bowman Activities Center in Saint Leo, Florida.
