MELBOURNE, Fla. – It was an electric atmosphere at Rick Stottler Field as the women's soccer team hosted Rollins in a homecoming week showdown. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the No. 8 Tars were the night's better side as Tech lost 3-0.
The Weston, Florida, duo of
Maria Munoz and
Mariana Mazzocca led the Crimson and Gray in chances as they both recorded two and Munoz put one on target.
Brittany Etrick and
Alexis Sheely were the other two women to challenge the Tars' keeper as they both tallied one shot on goal.
Maria Sanchez Recuero put in a fine effort in between the posts as she saved six shots.
The Panthers were caught napping in the early minutes of the contest as the Tars came out on fire and this translated to a goal only 3:45 after the opening whistle. However, the rest of the first half saw the momentum swing back and forth between the two clubs. Despite a few great opportunities for each side, the score held at 1-0 as the game went into the half.
Florida Tech took a page out of the Tars book to open the second half as they came out aggressive for the first 10 minutes of play. But as the pace slowed back down, Rollins took back control of the match and all of a sudden their attack once again came alive. This Tars' surge was capped off by two goals in a five-minute span and put the final score at 3-0.
Tech will get back to training for a week before they head to West Palm Beach, Florida, for a 6 p.m. ET match against Palm Beach Atlantic.
