Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls Short Against the Lakers

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Women's basketball looked to close out the Florida Tech Classic with a win against the Clayton State Lakers. Sadly that was not meant to be as big second and third quarters by the Lakers were insurmountable as the Panthers fell 53-75.

For the second straight game, Amanda Allen led all players in points with 15. Fanny Hakanson once again found herself as the game leader in assists with six dimes. Fanny Paulin was dominant around the basket as she grabbed a team high eight boards.

The first 10 minutes of play was a defensive battle as neither team managed to get their offense going and this resulted in a 12-7 Panthers' lead. This five-point margin was built thanks to back-to-back three balls by Allen in the last few minutes of the period.

Unfortunately, Clayton State's offense woke up and its defense tightened up and this left the Crimson and Gray with no answer. The women were behind, 20-31, as the teams left the court and went into the locker room.

The third quarter was similar to the second as the Lakers went on multiple big runs and increased the Panthers' deficit to 31-57 by the end of the period.

The final 10 minutes of action started out strong for Tech as the team outscored Clayton State 14-6 over the first four minutes. But a seven-point Lakers run made it a 25 point game with 3:54 left. The final minutes of the contest saw both teams trade baskets till the buzzer sounded and the scoreboard read 53-75.

Florida Tech will now refocus and turn its attention to a Tuesday, Nov. 19, matchup against the Flagler Saint. The team will take the trip up to St. Augustine, Florida, for the 5:30 p.m. ET showdown in the Flagler Gymnasium.
