Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

A 24-0 Run Helps the Panthers Power Past the Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Florida Tech women's basketball (3-2) put together a second-half run of the ages which helped push the team past Flagler, 71-57.

Aniquah Swan had a great game as she had a game-high 14 points and grabbed four boards. Amanda Allen recorded her first double-double of the season as she tallied 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Fanny Hakanson continued her amazing season as the Panthers point guard as she led the game with 10 assists.

The Panthers started out strong as they jumped out to an 11-7 lead after the first six minutes. But a late surge by the Saints cut Tech's lead to only one as the score was 15-14 at the break.

The second quarter was back and forth as both teams looked to gain the upper hand but neither could for more than a couple minutes and this was reflected in the quarter's scoring total as it was a tie at 16 apiece. This gave the Crimson and Gray a 31-30 lead at halftime.

The second half was dictated by runs as both Florida Tech and Flagler both seized the momentum at various points. The half started off in the Saints favor as they outscored the Panthers, 16-5, in the first seven minutes of the half. However, the power shifted to Florida Tech as the women closed out the third quarter on 10-0 run and brought the score even at 46-46 as the game went to the fourth.

The impressive run continued as Tech scored 14 more unanswered points to begin the final 10 minutes of play and brought the total run to 24-0. This gave the team a 60-46 lead with only 5:59 left in the game. After a Saints free throw, the Panthers were still hot as they went on another 7-0 run that cemented the win.

The game ended with a few more baskets by both teams which ushered in the 71-57 final score and gave Florida Tech its third win in four games.

The Panthers will have its first taste of Sunshine State Conference action this Saturday, Nov. 23, when they head across the state to Saint Leo, Florida, for a battle with the Lions. Tip-off is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
