TAMPA, Fla. – Florida Tech women's basketball grabbed its first win of the young 2019-20 season as the team won a come from behind last second nail biter, 75-73, over Spring Hill.
November Morton continued her strong offensive output as she tied the game high with 20 points.
Aniquah Swan had another big game herself as she tallied 17 points plus eight rebounds and
Fanny Hakanson was an all-around offensive juggernaut with 12 points and eight assists.
Amanda Allen had herself a day too as she was only two points away from her first double-double of the year as she had eight points and 10 rebounds.
The first quarter was dominated by the two teams trading runs which included an 8-0 SHC streak that gave them a 12-19 lead with 42 seconds left in the period. However, the Panthers had a 5-0 run to end the quarter and this brought the score to 17-19 at the break.
The second quarter was a defensive battle as only 20 points were scored between the two teams. Florida Tech had 11 of the 20 and most of them came doing a 7-0 that put the women up by two with only a 1:28 left. But a Badgers' layup on the next trip down the court finished off the first half scoring as the two teams went into the locker room tied at 28-28.
The third quarter was not the friendliest for the Crimson and Gray as they were outscored 17-23 and this put them down 45-51 as the game went into the fourth.
However, the final quarter was pretty much all Florida Tech as they exploded for 30 points. The highlight of the period was Morton's tear where she scored every Panther point in the 11-2 run that brought the team's deficit from 14 to five in a matter of three minutes.
This run inspired the team as over the final three minutes of play they outscored Spring Hill, 12-6. The final bucket of the contest came with zero across the clock as Hakanson converted the final second layup to propel the Panthers past SHC, 75-73.
Tech will look to push its win streak to two straight Friday, Nov. 15, when they play the University of Puerto Rico – Bayamon in the first day of the Florida Tech Classic. Tipoff for this game is set to beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
