Panthers Sweep Lynn

Florida Tech Wins Three in a Row

Melbourne, Fla. - On April 6, the Panthers wrapped up the series against the Fighting Knights. Florida Tech (19-14, SSC 8-7) defeated Lynn in all three games for a conference sweep. 

In the first game, Colin Cristello improved his record to 3-3 on the season pitching 6 innings allowing three hits and three runs. Cristello recorded three strikeouts on the victory.  

Jake Lane recorded his second save of the season pitching three innings allowing only two hits and recording two strikeouts. 

Offensively, the Panthers tallied eight hits, five runs and five RBI's. Jacob Buser had a great first game going 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a double on the Panther victory. 

James Gronberg continues to swing the bat well for the Panthers as he recorded two hits on four at bats with a run scored. 

Rodnie Bernard went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and a walk. 

Pedro Rivera gave the Panthers a one run lead in the fourth inning with a ground ball to second base scoring Raul Quintero.  

Florida Tech was able to earn a 5-3 victory over Lynn to clinch the series win. 

In the second game, Greg Berkemeier went with senior Rhett Willis who delivered four innings of work allowing only five hits and two runs to keep the Panthers in the game. 

Matt Dinenna was the winning pitcher of game two of the doubleheader. Dinenna pitched two innings allowing just one hit and no runs. He also recorded two strikeouts on the Panther victory. 

The Panther bats were certainly ready to go as they tallied ten hits, 11 runs and 11 RBI's in game two. 

Bernard in the third inning tripled to tie the Fighting Knights at two runs. The Tampa native went 2-for-4 with a walk, three runs, one RBI, a double and a triple on the victory. Bernard improved his batting .359 and continues to lead the team and currently ranks third in the hit category in the Sunshine State Conference. 

Gronberg went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI's, a double and a stolen base. Gronberg recorded his 64th stolen base of his career which puts him at second best All-Time in the Panther record books. The left hander leads the SSC in runs scored (40) and stolen bases (20). Also, he ranks third in walks (26) and fourth in on base percentage (.473). 

Jacob Buser went 2-for-5 with one run, three RBI's and a double. Buser ranks first in doubles (13), second in RBI's (41) and seventh in sac fly's (4).

The biggest hit of the night came off the bat of Pedro Rivera in the 8th inning with a two RBI single to center field giving the Panthers an 8-6 lead over Lynn. All momentum was shifted for Florida Tech as they scored seven runs in the eighth. 

Florida Tech defeated Lynn 12-6 and with that they earned their first conference sweep of the season. 

The Crimson and Gray will be back on Friday, April 12 to face Florida Southern at home. First Pitched is schedule for 6 p.m.
